Eligibility

  • Compulsory entry to all participating institutions in Malaysia only;
  • Entry is also open to other participating institutions outside Malaysia;
  • Each institution is allowed to submit ONE (1) entry only.

>INTENT

The architectural student workshops have been proven as a great melting pot in nurturing leadership, challenging architectural design proponents and boundaries among architectural students in Malaysia.

The 31st Architectural Students Workshop in the year 2019 is intended to ignite the FOURTH CYCLE of themes in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with xxx!nyala (read as "the thirty first is NYALA").

The CODEXXXX (may be read as "the fortieth code") time capsule design aims to visualize the closing of the fourth cycle in the 40th Architectural Student Workshops (anticipated in the year 2028) by inciting forward, creative and progressive thinking amongst architectural students.


>ACTION

Design a TIME CAPSULE to store a SCROLL OF INFOGRAPHIC presentation in printed materials and DIGITAL STORAGE drive by addressing the following issues;

  • What are the main challenges in the architectural students workshops?
  • How can we best address these challenges?
  • How do we see the 40th Architectural Student Workshops (year 2028)?

Rules and Submission Requirements

  • The design of the capsule must be durable to ensure that its content can be safely stored for at least 10 years;
  • The CAPSULE;
    • Size must not exceed 100 mm in diameter and 400 mm in length;
    • No restriction of type of material for the capsule design;
  • The SCROLL;
    • Width of document for the scroll must be 297 mm;
    • Minimum length is 420 mm;
    • Maximum length is limited to full rolls within the inner size of the CAPSULE design;
    • No restriction of type of material for the scroll;
  • The DIGITAL STORAGE drive;
    • Must store digital works of both the CAPSULE and the SCROLL;
    • Must include only one slide presentation (ratio 16:9) for purpose of judging session;
  • All texts are preferably written in English;
  • No part of the works may contain prohibited, offensive or objectionable materials (political, language, nudity, sexual etc.);
  • Participants must ensure they have full ownership of the materials submitted (footage, music, images, typography etc.);
  • Proper citation must be included for part of works previously published or part of works published by another third parties;
  • Kindly note that certain parties may require written consent for use of their copyrighted materials;
  • Entries containing any unauthorised content will be disqualified;
  • The organizer reserves the right to reproduce AND/OR retain in full or part of the submitted works AND/OR recordings for purpose of publication AND/OR purpose of archiving and exhibition AND/OR purpose of any promotional materials related to the Architectural Student Workshop, with credit of works remain owned by the submitter(s).

Judging Criteria

The jury shall evaluate the entries based on content and creativity, design execution AND effective visual and verbal presentation. Panel jury reserves the right to apply appropriate waiver in the case of insufficient qualified short listed entries for the judging session. ALL JUDGING DECISIONS MADE ARE FINAL.
